inches. A handmade, miniature book. Printed letterpress in orange and black
inks on French Arches paper using hand-set 8 point Optima type. One illustration
on frontispiece, letterpressed then hand-colored. Hand-bound with letterpress
characters on brown-paper endpapers.
Limited to 125 copies, numbered and signed by Carol Cunningham. Of these
50 were in deluxe bindings of silk brocade with the five-toed Imperial dragon
on the front. Forty-five were bound were in oriental-motif brocade over
boards. Thirty of the printed books were never bound.
A miniature treatise on one of history’s great explorers who “did
not tell half what I saw, for I knew it would not be believed”. The
book includes some background on the younger Marco’s life in historical
context, as well as a quote from the first 11 lines of Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s
famous Kubla Khan poem.
