Bowne & Co., Stationers, is part of the
famous South
Street Seaport Museum in New York, New York.
Located in the old printing district next to
Manhattan's financial center, Bowne & Co., Stationers,
is a replica of a local print shop in 1875.
As well as a museum with artifacts and a working
demonstration of the printing process, it is also
an active job printing shop - kept busy with producing
printed ephemera, wedding invitations, custom
stationery, and the occasional book.
The former curator of the printing museum,
Barbara Henry,
is one of the world's foremost printers,
and a specialist in nineteenth century
typography and type design. Robert Warner,
the present curator and manager of Bowne & Co. Stationers,
is a celebrated and widely collected artist who works in
letterpress printing, boxbinding, assemblage, and collage.
Carpe
Libris is proud to offer for sale books from two of
their most recent ambitious printing projects.
